UBDSS PRESIDENT CAMPAIGN
More Events!
More Opportunities!
More for Everyone!
A campaign focused on creating a more connected, exciting and inclusive year for everyone in Bristol Dental School, with student life and dentistry at the centre.
What I’m promising
Here are some of the socials, trips, opportunities and events I want to bring in if elected.
Weekly restaurant trips chosen by student vote, bringing everyone together to socialise, try new food and enjoy selected discounts, with free food available at selected events.
Regular karaoke nights where you can show off your vocals or just come along for a laugh. Organised based on demand.
Regular movie nights in the dental school café, plus trips to the new Odeon for big releases. Kick back, relax and enjoy free snacks while you watch.
A joint trip with another dental school, giving everyone the chance to meet new people and build a stronger dental community. Preferences such as dietary needs, interests and ride choices will be collected via a form sent prior to the event so groups can be matched accordingly.
Bake Off is coming to Bristol Dental School, with a sponsor donated prize up for grabs. Prefer something more relaxed? We will also run cooking class workshops throughout the year, so we cater to everyone, pun intended.
Fortnightly games nights featuring Monopoly, Uno, card games, FIFA and many others. Take part in individual competitions with top prizes up for grabs.
A full day of football, basketball, tug of war, relays, sprints and classic races, alongside sports such as padel and badminton. There will be something for everyone, with medals and prizes up for grabs and the chance to raise money for a good cause through sponsorships.
Alongside the Summer Formal, Halfway Ball and Summer Dinner, we will host a charity dinner with food from a local restaurant and an auction, with all proceeds going to a good cause.
Once a month, book your ticket and meet us for a mystery activity. From concerts and food tastings to zoo trips and spontaneous runs, brief details will be shared beforehand so everyone can take part and nobody is left out.
Regular pub crawls and pub quizzes throughout the year, giving everyone the chance to socialise and have fun.
Dental Family events, nights out, Summer Formal and more are all here to stay, we will be continuing to host them throughout the next year!!
We will be organising hikes to Snowdon and Pen y Fan so everyone can enjoy the outdoors, take in the views and spend time together.
We will be bringing back our annual ski trip abroad, giving everyone the chance to enjoy a well deserved getaway.
Throughout the year, we will host multiple events with other universities, including sports competitions, hikes, nights out and Take Me Out, to build a wider and stronger dental community.
We will work closely with your BSc reps to find out who you want to hear from and organise termly talks, workshops and events specifically for DHT students.
Alongside our careers evenings, we will host termly events with oral surgeons, restorative specialists, social media dentists, successful entrepreneurs and people who have taken completely different career paths after dental school. Regular polls will help us invite the speakers students actually want to hear from, giving everyone a better understanding of their options after graduation.
A new party to celebrate finishing exams and the end of the academic year with one final bash.
Who am I?
Hey, I’m Zain, a third-year dental student and the person behind SmilesbyZain.
I’m outgoing, ambitious and approachable, and I enjoy bringing people together and making the most of every opportunity. I’m passionate about dentistry, networking and creating experiences that students will enjoy and benefit from.
I grew up in Bristol, so I’m a Bristolian through and through. I’m half Kashmiri, with English and Scottish heritage too.
In my free time, I love travelling, trying lots of different food and keeping active, whether that’s climbing mountains, playing sports or chilling with my dog, Chico!
Some of you may already know me as SmilesbyZain. My page is where I share dental student life, experiences and everything I’ve been getting involved with along the way.
You can also keep up with updates from the University of Bristol Dental School Society through the UBDSS Instagram page.
Why me?
I have been involved in a number of dental events and leadership roles, including representing my cohort and working with organisations such as Omnia Dental.
As Bristol Tour Lead, I helped bring the Deputy Chief Dental Officer for England to the University of Bristol. I have also supported events such as Dentorama with the Global Dental Collective.
I have attended events including the BDIA Dental Showcase and Dentistry.co.uk events, as well as smaller private events with people such as The Singing Dentist and Robbie Hughes.
I have also shadowed dentists such as Dr Ali Al-Hassan, attended postgraduate courses and built a good network of dentists, mentors and friends within the profession.
I have worked in media in the past, including as a radio presenter, which has helped me become more confident with communication, presenting and hosting events.
What I’ll bring
Competitions, hikes, karaoke nights, movie nights, Winter Wonderland trips, baking sessions and more—while also maintaining our bar crawls, nights out and all the great events we enjoy year after year, including Dental Family events, Summer Formal and much more!
More events where students can meet, learn from and connect with dental professionals they aspire to be like. I want to help students build confidence, make valuable connections and discover more career opportunities.
Collaborations with other dental schools to help us build a wider and more connected dental community.
More workshops, networking events and socials tailored to Dental Hygiene and Therapy students, ensuring everyone across the dental school feels included and represented.
A memorable trip where students can relax, socialise, make new connections and enjoy time together outside of university.
Throughout the year, we will regularly ask each year group what events, opportunities and support they would like to see, so we can tailor your experience to what students actually want.
My vision
As President, I want to use my experience, local knowledge and connections to bring more opportunities to Bristol Dental School.
I want students to have a better idea of what dentistry is really like after graduation and have more chances to explore different specialties and career paths.
I want everyone to feel included, represented and the whole of Bristol Dental School to elevate together.
